Coming Out Day, October 11, 2008 PDF Print E-mail

Bowen Lambda celebrates October 11, 2008 as National Coming Out Day.

What is Coming Out Day? It's a special day for many reasons. The best part about it is that you get to choose how to use it. Coming Out is your journey. While others may encourage you to come it, only come out when you are ready and if it is safe for you to do so. When you take care of yourself first, good things will follow. Use Coming Out Day to come out for the first time to a friend or relative. Use it to talk to yourself about your identity. Use it to talk to your kids about individuals and couples who are lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT). Use it to support your friends and family who are LGBT. Use it as a stepping stone in your journey. You decide. It's your day.

To celebrate Coming Out Day, Bowen Lambda created its Inaugural Coming Out Day Declarations.

Join us in celebrating discovery, honesty, and truth.

Posted by MikeL
Wednesday, 13 August 2008
I received information about this program from Dean Kinsey in Career Services. Please note: The deadline is 10 days away, on August 22, 2008. If you are interested in clerking in the Dallas area, consider this program:

"The Dallas Bar Association (DBA) is continuing its program of recruiting minority law students for clerkships in Dallas area law firms.
Your school has either participated in the past or we have had a request for your school to participate this year. The program, known as the MABDI (Minority Attorney Business Development Initiative) Minority Recruiting Program, was established to assist the participating law firms in recruiting from a larger pool of minority candidates and to give minority students an opportunity to reach a greater number of firms in a systematic way."

Eligible students (top 50% of 2L class ONLY) who have an interest in the project and willingness to consider coming to Dallas following graduation are invited to send resumes and transcripts, preferably via email, by August 22, 2008. Early applications are encouraged. The student’s class standing/rank should be included in the resume. Along with their resumes and transcripts, students should send a brief cover letter explaining their ties to Dallas and/or their reasons for considering Dallas as a place to practice law following graduation from law school. The documents should be sent via mail or email to:

Ms. Sally Crawford
Jones Day
2727 North Harwood
Dallas, TX 75201
Phone: 214-969-2916
Fax: 214-969-5100
